I agree on gasoline. However naphtha, aka Coleman fuel or white gas, have a much higher flash point (45°C, 113°F) than gasoline (-45°C, -50°F). That's lower than the flash point for mineral spirits (100°F, 220°F) but it's still a relatively safe product.
But, yes, gasoline is a dumb product to use as a solvent.
