I have been looking at LBS. Someone mentioned Trek 7.2 fx. I found one here for 390 USD. 510 CDN. What are your thoughts on this as a first bike? The fx series ranges from 400-2800. Is it worth considering the next few models at a few hundred more?

Thank you

Trek has done some funny stuff with the renaming of the FX range.

At the end of the day, the changes are not that earth shattering, but the new FX range is slightly heavier and has one or two grades down of running gear, but it is also slightly less expensive.

If you could find a 2016 7.3FX that would be a good bike to grab.

I'll leave you to check on the running gear differences between various models of 2016 vs 2017, but just on weight alone, from the Trek website, there is this:

2016

7.2FX - 20" - 11.95 kg / 26.35 lbs
7.3FX - 17" - 11.22 kg / 24.74 lbs * - I've used the Women's model as that was the only 7.3FX that had a weight listed on the Website
7.4FX - 20" - 10.55 kg / 23.26 lbs

2017

FX1 - 20" - 12.34 kg / 27.21 lbs
FX2 - 17.5" - 11.66 kg / 25.71 lbs | 20" - 11.61 kg / 25.60 lbs
FX3 - 20" - 10.91 kg / 24.05 lbs
