Be sure it'll clear the front derailer too (if applicable on your bike). That's the limiting factor with my older mountain bike. Plenty of room in the frame and fork for tires wider than the 700x42 on it now, but only if I remove the front derailer and switch to a single chain ring, or find a derailer with more clearance in the rear.
