So why are you messing with it if you've got air in the tire and it's holding?
Pack a tube and a pump, or an inflator, some tissues and a bunch of cartridges and go ride your bike.
Whatever happens can't be worce than a flat, and you're always ready to deal with that right?
If you want to go all CSI on it, look if the valve keeps turning when you try to tighten the valve nut that last bit.
If it does, that'd explain why air would start leaking out.
