I've tried reading up on it, and I am really not sure if its worth the extra for the full kit. Do they usually look different or is of different quality?

THanks for the help
It's not a dumb question. How much does your dad cycle? If he's a regular rider (say, 100+ km every week) he would absolutely appreciate the higher end "real" kit. I've owned replicas/knockoffs of pro team kit before and it was really awful quality that wore out very quickly.

It may be more $$, but he would appreciate the high end stuff. Bibs and jerseys are two areas where spending more (to a point) is absolutely worth it.

That said, the replica stuff could be fine. Most of the ones I've seen are ripoffs from factories in China that have weird seams, terrible fabric, uncomfortable chamois pads, ect. I'm sure there are some that are decent, but it's impossible to know for sure unless you can handle the replica stuff before purchase.
