Could I simply ask the seller if he would be willing to be the claiming party on the warranty? As in could I just send it back to him, and then pay him to send it in to the manufacturer? More expensive, but actually 1) legal and 2) under the terms of the original warranty?
I don't really see that as any better. Ownership is transferred when you buy it, that's just exploiting the system. Not to mention you're shipping a frame to a stranger who really has no obligation to hold up their side of the deal.
