Bikes: 27 speed ORYX with over 39,000Kms on it and another 14,000KMs with a BionX E-Assist on it

I can certainly agree, that a mid-drive is better for a multiple of reasons for "off road" like you mentioned... What about a 2,000 watt hub motor for "off road" and a limiting switch for on road to the legal limit, would that work for you?
