They're also MSRP $150. I just picked up a new Force 22 crankset complete with rings for only $20 more.
OP - just throwing new rings at a shifting problem isn't a recipe for success. If you don't know what (if anything) is wrong with your current rings, how do you know what to look for in new ones? When people talk about different rings shifting "better" the real differences are pretty marginal (assuming a correctly working and tuned FD).
I have thought about the price differences, which is why I was originally looking to replace the whole crank. Then there were several "keep what you have" and "your crank really isn't that bad" comments, which got me thinking in a new direction. I'm really open to anything at this point.
For some history on my rings:
http://www.bikeforums.net/bicycle-mechanics/1080670-fd-won-t-shift-small-big.html
So I think that I actually do have an issue with my big ring that warrants replacing.
I also have a pop in my bb.
When I added up new bearings and new or lightly used rings (fwiw I'm looking mostly on eBay) I noticed some entire cranks were similarly priced, which is why I was thinking about going that route.
Then while looking, I started to get somewhat confused and overwhelmed at the number of variables and choices in play. Hence the reason I came here for help and advice...
So to kinda break it all down:
I would ultimately like an entire new (or lightly used) crankset that would be an upgrade over my gossamer.
Because:
A. I would like something that feels stiffer. I believe I have felt flex in my crank arms at times.
B. I would like something more cosmetically pleasing.
C. If I am already spending money on rings and bearings, maybe I can find a good deal on a crank that satisfies A and B.
Now that being said, I NEED, not WANT:
A. New bearings to remedy the bb noise I have.
B. New rings, or at minimum and new big ring to fix the shifting issue.
So when I consider those two items, there are several choices I have to consider:
A. Find a crankset that would be an upgrade, but is within my budget, also is bb30 and 172.5 and 50/34 or 50/36.
Or A1. Consider a non bb30 crank such as 105, ultegra, or praxis. My research leads me to believe that the praxis bb is superior to bb30 and the rings are as good as shimano. I am hesitant to switch to shimano because then I need an adapter and I then lose the supposed advantage of a 30mm spindle with bb30? Or am I wrong here?
I am also potentially open to 52/36, but my first choice would be 50/36 if I can find or build it within my budget, while fixing my problems.
See why I'm confused and need help from guys that know a helluva lot more than I do?!?
