That collective experience that you are embracing so warmly brought us a flat earth, evil humors, etc., etc.

It's a wonder how horses survived the rain, and being wet, for all those millions of years without Vet care.

i have a teeny bit of experience with horses. In the summer, usually you just use a sweat scraper to wipe off moisture on the surface of their coats; they're still essentially "wet" underneath. In the winter, after a long ride, there really ain't no way you are going to "dry" a horse because their coats are just incredibly thick (and they grow thicker the colder it gets). Of course, you avoid riding them hell-bent--like some Hero out of a Romance novel--back to the paddock, only to put them away sweaty and hot so that you can forthwith go make love to your Heroine; no, you cool them down in the same way you, yourself, cool down after a great exertion on the bike. We never blanketed our horses, either. And they were fine in even the coldest temps.

Bikes? Depends. My MTB I wipe down (dry with an old rag); road, less often.
