BTW, the beg buttons at Mass Ave/Pleasant & Mystic have been placebos for a long time.
They are planning to install 8 beg buttons - also in placebo mode - when the new lights go in.

The placebos appeal to me. Reminiscent of the busy boxes small children play with: ritual devices for the performance of magical gestures to bring about desired effects in the world.
