Ditto, everything Andrew and other folks mentioned (including the uneven pad wear precaution Andrew described -- I encountered that last year; took awhile to figure out the thin lips from unevenly worn pads were hanging on the rim).

My hybrid has no-name V-brakes, despite the Tektro levers. The brakes seem okay but I suspect the occasional need to tweak everything is due to the sub-par springs, and gunk that may accumulate in there, as other folks described.

But even these no-name V-brakes are less fussy to adjust and stop better than the Shimano cantdeliver brakes on my '92 Univega mountain bike.
