Old school carb cleaner like Berrymans or Motorcraft PM-2 will strip most logos, smudges, paint transfer, tar, grease and just about anything else, nasty stuff, be careful, works great.

Use #0000 steel wool and rub lightly until the black logo is gone. Don't push too hard - let the steel wool do the work. Likely a slight shadow of the logo will remain. Then use a good metal polish (Simichrome or Maas are the best) to finish. This will eliminate any remaining traces of the logo and produce a mirror shine.
