Sometimes they will park an ad with a preposterous price, probably due to low inventory (or Christmas Vacation). Then, they simply adjust the prices when they are ready to sell the item again.
Look for prices that are, say exactly the sale price + $1000. So... a $125 item would be listed as $1,125.
You are correct, seller just responded saying they do that when inventory is unclear. I feel better now, thanks,
