Im 5 ft 8 without shoes.
They're different. My fs 26er is slacker and has a longer wheelbase than my rigid 29er, so in some ways it's slower handling. I'm 6ft and generally like the larger wheel 29ers. I feel like I sit on a 26er versus in a 29er. The extra rollover is nice also.

For light trails, I love the 29er, it eats miles. Since you're a little smaller 27.5 is probably a good compromise.

I would not buy a new 26er, since they're basically obsolete. If you're looking used, that's a different story, and you can sometimes find good deals from people upgrading.
