That's probably a clutch replacement surcharge because no one knows how to drive stick anymore. I consider my manual Jetta to have an additional built-in theft prevention device.
A year or so ago my car was broken into. They opened it, removed the ignition barrel, but the car was still there the next morning. We figured they realized it was a standard and didn't know how to drive it. Never fixed it either so I would start the car with a screwdriver. Would get some funny looks when giving people rides.
