I have used my 700x40 Marathon Supreme on dirt and it works ok as long as I go slow. I still use it for mildly difficult mountain bike/dirt though. The tire is like a big smooth road bike tire. There is tread, but I think it is only for appearance.

If you will ride on dirt often, the Mondial will be better.
