I've been doing it for about three years now. I only wear them as a base layer under my winter gloves. My regular un-insulated cycling gloves dry out on their own and don't develop the smell problem.

I haven't noticed any difference in how cold my hands get. Perhaps my hands are sweating so bad all the time that for me there's no perceptible change?
