Tricolor was built to a price point. Paint rather than polish and stickers not etching or silkscreen all saves money. To me that's part of the charm: most of the functionality of Dura Ace without the expensive things that don't add anything to function. I rode tricolor from the mid 90s into the early 'aughts, and it always worked perfectly for me.

'88 was a dark period for campy anyway. Tullio had died and they had lost their way. If you want to put campy on it someday, SR/NR is the real thing.
