I snapped a chain on 9W this year heading south back towards the city. Three cyclists stopped and asked if I was OK, but none had a chain tool. Without the chain tool, I had to call family members that live in Orangeburg, NY to come pick me up in their truck and drive me to the nearest bike shop. So I lucked out that time and dodged the bullet of walking for miles in my cycling shoes. That is the only time I felt completely stranded. Everything else that has gone wrong on a ride has never left me pushing the bike home. Knock on wood.
