I'd still be skeptical of mounting a rack on bike that the manufacturer has specifically removed the mounting points. They do this for a reason, and it's hard to believe it's because of cost.

Each year racing bikes are made lighter & lighter. They are shaving weight by removing material from areas where it's not needed for a person using the bike for it's intended purpose. Cross bikes & the new adventure bikes are beefier for a reason.
