Oversized BMX

I have mountain bikes, but would like an oversized BMX bike as well. I really don't plan to do too much BMXing with it, though... Maybe some tricks and mostly for trail riding. i am looking for something that will be a little more upright for riding and would be mostly a BMX style cruiser that would be used for mostly rail trails and a few paths and maybe down at the shore on trails and boardwalk. I would want something that has chromoly tubing. I have seen a few bikes by SE and We the People and I have also considered building my own bike. I like the idea of 26" wheels on it, but I am 5'4" and have regular size upper body and short legs. I am considering a 24". If I was to do a build I would use a chain tensioner and put BMX style bars and stem on the bike. I have two older Trek frames 26" that could be used. They are around 14" frames. One has a 1" headset. Would a standard BMX stem work with it? The other has a 1 1/8 headset. I may want to create one hopefully for about a $100 and if I like it then go and buy something like a We The People.... Is this something that can be done easily? How would the geometry be on a smaller framed 26" mountain bike? Would I be better to find a 24" mountain bike to do this? Is there a place to get BMX parts, ect. for it and/or any parts recommendations? Are there any frames to look for that would have the dropouts similar to BMX bikes? Should I just stick with my geared mountain bike instead of making it into a single speed?

Thanks!
