+1 That's all I've done with new frames also. My litmus test for a new frame is to install a Shimano HTII bottom bracket and crank. I install the bearing cups firmly but not to full torque and then slide in the DS crank spindle. If it aligns with and enters the nds cup with out twisting, forcing or bending, the bb faces are parallel enough.
