I am building up a newly painted used frame for all thumbs son-in-law. I made sure he new to have the BB faced after painting by the shop and the paint does look shaved off the shell.
Power Torque Athena going in so not sure why I did it but mounted machined bars on the shell and measured the shell length at 90 degrees. It is 0.17mm off which seems to me to be too much for what should be parallel.
Hoping for an opinion so I don't have to pull a BB on one of my bikes to perform similar checks to see if I am needlessly worried.

at that small of a difference, I would suspect your frame wasn't threaded perfectly in line. the faces of the shell are probably perfectly square to the threads on each side, but the threads aren't in line with each other. nothing you can do about it now, and it's such a small amount it's not worth messing with, IMO. especially when you consider that the .17 is divided between two faces, so each side is "out" only .085mm. that's nothing.
