You're right that things are often more complex than they are presented. I teach critical thinking to college students and try to focus on such issues.

However, from my understanding, there are zero advantages to hard-anodized rims aside from cosmetically hearkening back to an era when they were common because people (incorrectly) thought there were advantages.

I'm certainly open to revising my stance. My original question asked whether some of the disadvantages are less of an issue than was thought 10-20 years ago. Saying "the world has many shades of grey" (perhaps even 50) doesn't clear this up at all.
