Here in Chicago we also run into a problem with available daylight from early Dec - mid January. Our last race (usually first weekend of Dec) typically uses every available minute of daylight for racing, with first races going off at 8:30am and the last race wrapping up around 4:30pm, leaving organizers scrambling around in the dark trying to set up and tear down. Doing that for several more weeks would be hard for them, I would think.
Very true, though keep in mind Euro daylight hours are longer in summer, but even shorter than ours in winter.
