I have a set of the newer 105 (5800) compact cranks.

The 50t ring has a black plastic backing/core (this may be similar to Ultegra and DA, I'm not sure).

Anybody know if it is possible to remove and replace this plastic piece without damaging it?

I suspect that it is bonded in place (which would lead me to believe that it cannot be removed without damage), but just wanted to check to see if anybody knew for sure.
