You also had to drill Mafac levers, if I'm remembering right.


Fortunately, my Miyata has the original Dia-Compe brakes. The mirror just bolts right on to those levers, as I recall--you have to remove that little conical aluminum nosepiece, but as long as you don't lose it you can take the mirror off again and restore the lever to its original condition.


I'm with you in principle, though. Although I'm willing to experiment with almost any kind of nut-and-bolt modification (ones that are completely reversible, in other words), I always keep the old parts. I never drill or tap anything unless that's the only way to fix something that's already busted.
