Last year I picked up
- Cold set the frame to fit a 130mm rear hub wheel
- Hope my BB will fit (or find one that will)
a 1994 RB-1 in nearly mint condition (still has the cellophane cover over the headtube badge) with mint condition complete period Athena groupset (looks like the guy I bought it from, the original owner, had it built up from new with these parts and then rode it 2 or 3 times over its life).
The groupset is surprisingly nice to ride and shifts excellently but I love old classic steel bikes with modern groupsets and was able to pick up a nearly complete SRAM Apex (missing brake calipers) for $40 and am thinking of building it up with this set.
What challenges am I looking at to build it up?
This is what I know about
:
1. Hope the BB fits (or buy one, what size to get?)
2. Cold set the frame to fit a 130mm rear hub.
I would keep the quill stem, but might get a more modern style ergo drop bar.
