Our CFLs were dying rapidly (maybe cheap wiring in AG's old condo), so I just bought a couple things of LED bulbs from Costco and put them in as the CFLs failed. Are yours surviving better than that?
Failing that, you can always ask Goodwill. If you make it clear they work and you don't need money. If they say no, maybe call a women's shelter or the like.
Yeah, they hold up pretty well. Not years and years, but a good, long time. We are just frustrated by the slow warm up to full brightness. In closets and hallways where you need light right now we are still using halogens. Goodwill is certainly a possibility. And I like the women's shelter idea, but they would have to match the equipment there.
