50t is a bit too high, unless you move to Holland. Another chainring would be best. Typically a single speed would use about a 70 inch gear, which translates to 42/16 or 44/17. If you can find a compatible chainring about that size, and use it with a rear cluster of fairly normal size (13-28 or whatever), it will give you a reasonable range for general urban riding -- including some hills.
