I usually cut it a little closer than that on a bike, but am more likely to cut behind a person than in front of them.
Anyway, it sounds like the pedestrian believed you were impinging on his space. But, his reaction was a bit over the top.
Or, maybe he just didn't like bicycles.
Did you talk to him after the incident? Witnesses?
I didn't care to stick around as I checked to make sure bike was okay, and gtfo because I didn't want to see if it would escalate from there.
Weirdly, no people for at least a block in any direction.
Protecting a kid is one thing, but changing course to attack someone in the street another.
