I saw the KHS frame I've been looking for slip by for $350 awhile back ... that came w/ a carbon fork, stem and bars. Stupid no-paycheque week. Where I'm at right now is I've got one utter beater, the shared bike that I'm determined not to ride anymore because my gf gets pissed everytime she has to readjust the seatpost, stem, toeclips, etc. (it's too small for me anyway) and then there's Sputter. I'd like to downgrade Sputter to "winter bike" status, get myself a nice reliable utility bike that I love to ride (ie. IRO Angus) and then slowly chip away at something really nice and unique.
For that my plan is a KHS Aero track. I'm going to find one, powdercoat it British racing green (please oh please with some sassy metal fleck in it), slap a chrome fork on it that matches the rake (preferrably straight blade) and go from there. Given that the Aero Track has a screwy sloped top tube, I have no idea if the 57 will even fit me. I know the 53 will be too small, so this might just end up as a longterm exercise in building a bike for the sake of the process. It'll probably get sold off to someone who can give it a nice home if it doesn't fit. If it does ... well then I'm laughing.
Then of course I'd like to build a 1" pitch path racer ... and a singlespeed mountain bike ... and a cyclocross bike ... and blah blah blah I need more money.
