Not being able to cross-chain on a compact is a serious annoyance. A compact only has overlap on the last 2-3 gears, so if you can't use the small-small combinations, you're going to need to front shift significantly more often. Get the long cage and avoid the hassle.
Yeah, good point. Thanks for the feedback. That's what I've done, I purchased the RD-M771 SGS (long cage). Now I'm trying to decide if I want to go to 11-32 or 11-34. I guess it's not that big of a difference in gear ratios (1.06 vs 1.0).
