You know, I've always wondered if that may have been a combination of pure Ti and bad workmanship. I had an original BB bitd with the hollow spindle, which was machined badly. The drill bits didn't meet up perfectly in the center, thereby leaving a massive stress riser in the middle of the span. QC was sadly lacking that day! Wish I'd kept it as Campy's QC issues were few and far between.
