I think GamblerGORD's opinion about eyelets puts him in a small minority. Many people consider eyelets to be a
good thing, as they supposedly reinforce the spoke hole and spread the force from the nipple more evenly to the rim.
If there's any characteristic about that particular rim I'd suggest avoiding, it's not the eyelets but rather the hard anodizing. There's long been speculation that hard anodizing makes a rim more prone to cracks, especially around spoke holes. Jobst Brandt, mechanical engineer and author of
The Bicycle Wheel, was one person who was
critical of hard anodizing.
As for a replacement rim, what characteristics are you looking for? Your initial post mentions both 32 and 36 holes, and that you're building up a city bike from scrap parts. With that in mind, the Sun CR18 might be a suitable replacement if you're going to buy a new rim. It's available in 32 and 36 holes, its wide width is fine for a city bike, it's available with or without eyelets, and it's inexpensive.
