Disks will only be featured in flat sprinter stages, because on the mountain stages the weight penalty would make any riders on them uncompetitive.

Flat stages will allow the manufacturers and component vendors the best chance to showcase disk-brake equipped bikes, with the least risk of embarrassing performance outcomes.

Not working so far, as every outing by a disk equipped rider at the world tour level has resulted in a crash, an injury inflicted on another rider, or below-expected race results.
