It seems nobody understands the effects of the UCI weight limit. This imposes a cap on the weight of the bike overall. Not the wheels: the bike.
In terms of performance, you always want to remove rotating mass. So if you had godlike powers with respect to materials, and a 15 pound weight limit, you would build a bike with zero mass wheels, and then add the equivalent weight to the rest of the bike. Disk rotors are rotating mass, and therefore are an insurmountable disadvantage.
Besides, my bikes are not limited to the UCI limit. So why would I spend a bunch of money downgrading my bike by at least a pound for something that provides no real world advantage?
BTW: the first thing I do when I get a new bike is to grind the useless lawyer tabs off of the fork dropouts. So the quick release works like it really should. If I get disks are your saying that I need PITA through-axles that make my frequent wheel changes misery?
Listen: I have no personal stake in justifying the purchasing decisions of misguided weekend warriors, or the bike manufacturers and retailers who really really need to push disks to create some sales churn, but all I'm doing is stating the hard cold facts.
