Would Nitto Noodles make a big difference?

I used to tour a lot on my (appropriately, professionally fitted LHT) and in the last two years, got really fed up with the position. I had wrist pains, and some back pains. I switched to a more upright bike - a Surly Troll - and am enjoying it for bounces around town, and have no pain (especially with ergo grips!) but I do miss that streamlined more "road bike" feeling that I used to have.

I've recently thought - maybe the LHT stock bars (ritchey) aren't the best, and I should go for wide Nitto Noodles, the bars everyone claims are "made for people who don't like drops". I mostly ride in the hoods or on the flats; so I thought, maybe I should buy a pair of Noodles and see whats up.

My question is: are they as game-changing as all the various forum threads make it out to be?
