I am in this same boat, refreshing my old bike that has a set of 32h Mavic G40 rims.
I built these wheels myself back in 1987 but haven't used them for the past 20 years.

The brake surfaces are a bit worn and the eyelets are all rusty, and I've gained a few pounds since I last used them regularly.

I want to rebuild then but I'm having a difficult time deciding what rims to use.
Torn between using period correct rims from the eighties or modern rims like the Mavic Open Pro.
