I found a video about the Cyclotron no-spoke bike.

What I think looked odd about it was that it apparently had a very full fender/sleeve that the wheel and tire went into (hopefully easy to fix a flat).

So... your squirrel could still get sucked up into the fender/sleeve, and make quite a mess out of it.

Of course, a hamster might be able to run on the wheel, giving an extra power boost
