Generally, home owners insurance covers everything stolen from the home, with some restrictions, such as on jewelry. Bikes are usually covered subject to the standard deductable, though I suggest that anyone with high value bikes save their purchase receipts to prevent arguments over what a bike is worth.

However, most policies don't cover the theft of the bike out in the world. That offsite theft coverage can be added for an additional premium.

Keep in mind that theft insurance often/usually covers "fair market" or "depreciated" value. This can lead to plenty of negotiation relating what a 2 year old $5,000 bike may be worth.
