I recently bought a mid-90's Trek at a thrift store for $21.99 (plus tax). A lot of cleaning and a little repair (I ended up with about $35 in the bike,
counting the value of parts I used but already owned).... I sold it on Craigslist. I could have easily switched out the wheels... and still sold a decent bike at a fair (and profitable) price. Just say'in.
