Jagwire kits come with flexy brake cable outer for the bars and the stiffer stuff for the rest of the run. The flexy stuff goes under the bar tape and connects by a special ferrule to the stiffer outer. By analogy, my guess is that the I-Link doesn't do well under the bar tape, so you should use the standard outer cable for that then continue with the links after the taped area. Is there possibly a ferrule supplied (for each side) that would make a smooth transition between the links and the standard outer cable. Finding that would be the clincher (pun) it seems to me.
I've seen that with the Jagwire system and thought it would be the same for this one. There is a connection for the standard housing and the inner liner runs through all of it. It's probably what I'm going to do since I don't think I can return the entire system now as I've cut and trimmed the lengths, plus I'll be without a bike until I get them back.
