I shipped my bike from Michigan to Oregon and back last year using ShipBikes.com. Also check BikeFlights.com, they both use Fed-Ex but are half the price of Fed-Ex or taking it on the airline. Be sure to wrap the frame in bubble wrap or foam. A hardshell is more protection but a bike shipping box from your LBS will work.
ShipBikes took 3-4 days each way.
