When your chain gets wet again after a wet ride, do you go through this procedure all over again ? Chain lube can prevent rust as well as being a lubricant, but a cheap untreated chain will rust no matter what. A better chain will not rust nearly as much. Buy a better chain and save yourself the hassle. The best chains like a KMC X11SL will not rust at all not matter how wet it gets. At least mine doesn't. But i keep my bike stored indoors at room temperature.
