Grenoble is a large city. While it has an extensive network of multi-use paths, you could waste a bit of time getting in and out of town.

There used to be a site called the Grenoble Cycling Pages that had a lot of information about the nearby climbs and rides, but sadly it seems to be no longer in commission (domain is "parked" and "for sale by owner").
