Remove the cable from the derailleur and unscrew the adjuster.
I removed the cable from the derailleur and the barrel adjuster became loose, so I did not have to unscrew it.
However I got a shifting issue, with too little cable tension.
The barrel adjuster is not adding enough cable tension when I turn it so something is wrong with that.
