Time and miles do not mean the same. A rider can ride and many do 5-10000 miles a year. That is your 7 year old bike. I would guess with proper maintenance and keeping clean and keep lubed, your can last 20 plus years at 2k per year. You said you did not clean it often. That is the clue. Just depends on you goal.
I buy cheap lawn mowers for $150 new. Last for maybe 6-9 years. I change oil but really do not take any special care. Goes bad I buy a new one. $25 a year to mow cheap. Bike can be look at same way. However I have my Motobecane with 10000 miles I bought it in 2010. Looks almost new well maintained original wheels and all parts except chains and tires. Shifts like a dream it is carbon fiber not Al but I expect it to last for years......I don't ride it like I did at first few years got another bike but I could.
