51F and rain. The ride home yesterday was one my scariest on-bike moments. When I left it was clouding up but almost 70 and radar was mostly clear. Shortly after getting on the main MUP I started hearing thunder but still no big deal. As I got close to one of the most open spots of my commute I started hearing a loud droning roar. Looking to the west (my left) I saw what looked like rain but didn't think that was the source of the noise. It was, and it wasn't rain - it was sideways hail.
When it hit the wind immediately went from zero to 20+, the temp dropped at least 10 degrees, and the hail was wicked. I've been in hailstorms before but this sucked. I was screaming like a little girl (sorry for the sexist reference) and what made it worse was there was nowhere to get out of it. I have welts (still) on my left side shoulder and torso. I was able to keep my face out by pointing my helmet into the wind. It probably lasted no more than a couple minutes but was terrifying. I hope never to do that again!
