Really simple. If you ride enough, especially in competitive situations (or heavy city traffic or year 'round in all weather) crashes happen. Some of the sweetest words you can hear in the emergency room is the thank you for shaving from the ER nurse (who was about to run that razor over your very raw skin). The next week with all its bandage changes and tape rip-offs is also a whole lot nicer.

But to hear this you have to shave BEFORE you crash. Not being regularly telepathic, I find it easier to just stay shaved. Kind of like wearing seatbelt before the laws were in place.
